State Mines Country Club is one of only four championship golf courses within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan area and are consistently rated amongst the 100 best courses in the country.

Commissioned in 1909 by the State Mines Gold Mining Company as a nine-hole recreational facility for company employees; subsequently upgraded to an eighteen-hole course.
In 1970 the membership took ownership of the course and appointed architect Rob O'Friel to redesign the course with many significant changes during the years to follow.
